Lyons,
Pipes & Cook, one of the South's leading law firms, was
founded in Mobile, AL in 1899. Our founder was Joseph H.
Lyons, a graduate of Harvard Law School. Initially the
firm was comprised of two partners - Mr. Lyons and Thomas
M. Stevens, a renowned trial lawyer. The firm was known
as Stevens & Lyons. After the partnership dissolved, Mr.
Stevens formed the firm of Stevens, McCorvey & Dean, the
predecessor to the present firm Johnstone, Adams, Bailey,
Gordon & Harris. Mr. Lyons formed the firm of Lyons & Courtney.
At various times, throughout our history, the firm has
been known as Lyons, Chamberlain & Courtney; Lyons & Thomas;
Lyons, Thomas & Pipes; and Lyons & Pipes.
For
years, the firm was located on the fifth floor of the original
First National Bank Building. In 1967, we moved to the
newly completed First National Bank Building, now known
as the AmSouth Bank Building, where we occupied the 25th
Floor. In 1979, we completed construction of our present
offices at 2 N. Royal Street. At the time, downtown Mobile
was in a decline and businesses were relocating to West
Mobile. By constructing our new offices at this site, we
became the cornerstone in the revitalization of downtown.
Today,
there are 28 attorneys on our staff, practicing in
nearly every area of law. Our mission is to provide
excellent, results-oriented legal services to clients,
serving them with loyalty and professionalism,
while keeping their future and best interests in mind;
to maintain the integrity of the firm; and to ensure
a quality work environment. Through focus and dedication
to these principles, Lyons, Pipes & Cook will continue
to be one of the South's leading law firms for another
hundred years. |
